At our July General Membership meeting at Huck Finn’s restaurant we named to new officers to the Chamber of Commerce.  We would like to welcome in Cindy Doyle and Kelly Buller.  We hope to have a great term with you and look forward to your input at our meetings.

We would like to welcome a new business to the parish.  That business is Kristy Ardoin’s Interiors.  Her grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony was held on August 1st.

To our parents and students,  we hope that this year will be a prosperous year for our student’s budding young minds.  With that in mind the Chamber of Commerce will be implementing a new program for our HIGHSCHOOL students this year.  We hope that this program will encourage our students to reach for their goals and this honor.  This program will honor a “student of the month.”  All of the school’s principals have been notified.  This will not only be a city wide program, but parish wide one.  The first student will be honored in September. 

We are planning a political rally to hopefully take place in November.  We hope to finalize all plans for this rally at our Board of Directors meeting on August 20th. 

Officers from the Chamber of Commerce will be attending a state luncheon at The City Club in Baton Rouge on August 29th.  The attending officers are:  President Nick LeBas; Vice President Rob Eastin; Executive Director Camille Fontenot. 

The Jean Marie Laran Museum is sponsoring a LSU college football pool.  This pool is for the 2007/ 2008 season.  It will serve as a fundraiser to gain monies for the museum. Squares will be $100.00; this will allow you a square on the pool for each game of the season.  You will not have to buy a square for each game! If you would like to buy squares or receive additional information for this pool please contact us at the Chamber office. 

On August 2nd, there was an art show featuring local artist.  This was held at the Jean Marie Laran Museum.  The museum will be honoring the artist that participated in this show this month.  Please stop by and see all of the wonderful art created here in your home town and surrounding areas.
